How do I Cancel a False Alarm.?

Alarm systems are easier to operate than many of your everyday appliances. To help you use your alarm system effectively, we have listed a few important tips about its operation.

When communicating with Eastern or the Monitoring Centre always identify yourself with your

  • Name,
  • System Number, and
  • Password or Pass Code

Keep your System Number and applicable Password or Pass Code confidential. When you need information about the proper use and operation of your alarm system, call Eastern. If you are planning renovations that may interfere with or change your protection requirements, call Eastern.

If you are uncertain whether or not your alarm system is functioning properly, call the Monitoring Station and ask for a Customer Service Representative. You will be walked through a basic system test and confirm that the appropriate alarm signals are being received at the Monitoring Station. If the system is faulty, the Monitoring Station will advise Eastern Security to arrange a service call to your premises.

To change your Call List, call the Monitoring Station and ask for a Customer Service Representative. Any changes, whether permanent or temporary, will be implemented immediately. Only authorized persons are allowed to make changes.
When Eastern receives an intrusion or supervisory alarm, the Monitoring Station uses alarm verification to reduce the number of False Alarms and needless dispatches of the police department. If the Monitoring Station receives a Cancel Code we will not verify because a cancel code indicates that an authorized user has entered his or her access number into the keypad to cancel the alarm.

If your system is equipped with a panic, hold-up, or duress button, and  if you feel threatened for any reason - press this button. The alarm  received at the Monitoring Station will be identified as a panic, hold-up, or duress.

How can I update my call list....?

In order to help us at Eastern serve you better, call our toll free number (1-800-586-8174) to provide us with any new information or changes to your account. Please keep us informed of:

1. New phone numbers for your premises and for the individuals on your call list

Warning: If your alarm sounds at night while you are sleeping do not react by turning off your alarm system. By turning off your alarm system you will send a Cancel Code to the monitoring station and Eastern will automatically assume the alarm is false. Before entering your Cancel Code, cautiously determine what caused the alarm.

2. Names and passwords of those who are authorized to make changes to your account.

3. Additions to your list of authorized users of your alarm system.

4. Temporary call lists if someone on your original call list is away or on holidays.

5. Deletions to your list of authorized users.

Please give all new users thorough instructions on how to arm and disarm your alarm system. Each authorized user must know his or her confidential password and the Eastern Security phone number so that he/she can call to cancel a false alarm. If someone is to be deleted from your list, please be sure to inform Eastern and also to remove his or her user code from the alarm panel.

What is a cancel code?

A Cancel Code allows you as a user of Eastern Security Monitoring Services to disarm your Alarm System with a confidential code immediately after having setting off a false alarm. Because disarming requires a confidential code, the receipt of a Cancel Code tells the Monitoring Station that an authorized person is at the premises, the alarm is false, and no further action is required.

The Cancel Code is a tool used by Eastern Security to reduce false alarms. It saves the customer the embarrassment of receiving a phone call from the Monitoring Station, and will also prevent the possibility of a dispatch of Emergency Services vehicles.

Warning: If your alarm sounds at night while you are sleeping do not react by turning off your alarm system. By turning off your alarm system you will send a Cancel Code to the monitoring station and Eastern will automatically assume the alarm is false. Before entering your Cancel Code, cautiously determine out what caused the alarm.
